Project: Design, Installation and Commissioning of a Sterile Services Reverse Osmosis water purification system.

Details: Due to an upgrade of the Sterile Services Department with new washer disinfectors and sterilisers the Hospital decided to also replace the Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification system.

Solution

A new and larger RO system with thermal disinfection plus a separate water softening system was specified.

A Whitewater Thermosan C packaged duplex RO system was selected with a 1000 litre 316L stainless steel permeate tank with operation options of duplex or duty/standby. This skid mounted hot system produces 1500 LPH of RO water at 60°C, with periodic hot water disinfection at 85°C. The hot RO water recirculates in a 2” 316L stainless steel ring main loop at 24m3/hr to nine points of use, with an allowance for future expansion. The Whitewater Thermosan C RO includes the capability for remote diagnostics to enable remote monitoring of the RO and soft water systems. A separate soft water skid via a 2” ABS ring main supplies soft water at 20m3/hr to 7 points of use.

During the installation phase many challenges were overcome including space and access constraints.

Outcome: Following the successful installation and commissioning process, the Whitewater Thermosan C RO system is now providing high purity water to the washer disinfectors and sterilisers compliant with current HTM 01-06 requirements.
