Big Hearted Irish Motorcyclist’s to ride across the mother of all mother roads to raise funds for sick children

Route 66 for Temple Street Children’s University HospitalOn September 22nd over 66 motorcyclists from all over Ireland will departed Dublin for Chicago where they began their 2,444 mile journey across America, riding up Sunset Boulevard 12 days later, the Irish 66ers rolled down the Santa Monica Pier escorted by the Santa Monica Police Department on Monday, October 3, 2016. The entourage totalling 96 strong leathered up and took to the mother of all mother roads to help this group raise funds for sick kids in Ireland. Five participating from Whitewater: Mark Keating Executive Director, Liz Nangle MD & husband Jimmy, Paul Picard, Projects Manager & Mark Reddy Technical Service Engineer raised €40,000.

This bi-annual trip has been running since 2002. It sees Temple Street’s Irish 66er’s travel through 9 states and 4 different time zones; from Illinois through Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and finally California. As they ride this wonderful road, always on their minds are the brave little patients in Temple Street that urgently need the best possible care that can be given to them.

Temple Street’s big hearted Irish 66ers have helped to redevelop critical wards and purchase vital life-saving equipment. Angi McNulty, Special Events Manager said, “It is with a huge sense of pride that I welcome the Irish 66er 2016 Team on board for this year’s challenge. We have wonderful support throughout America, especially in Chicago where we are hugely supported by Chicago Emerald Society’s Tom Cody, Cook County Sheriff’s Department and Chicago Police Department. We have made wonderful friends for life who have journeyed with us for the past 16 years. Temple Street Children’s University Hospital’s Route 66 Challenge is truly a unique experience.
